Authorities are crediting diligent parents in regards to charges laid against a 51-year-old Airdrie man trying to lure a minor over the internet for sexual purposes.
The man was arrested on Tuesday after the parents alerted police when they came across some unsettling information while monitoring their child’s Internet usage.
“I was very impressed actually, this was very due diligence on the parents’ behalf,” RCMP Const. Francine Hiebert told Metro.
Calgary police Internet safety crime prevention Const. Kathy MacDonald has some advice for parents and children to prevent such things from happening in the city.
“It’s always good for parents to know what their children are doing and who they are talking to, what kind of sites they are using and even the kinds of personal information they are putting out there,” she said.
The suspect is expected in Airdrie Provincial Court Aug. 19.
