The parents of a baby girl who died at the Hospital for Sick Children four years ago have extended an olive branch to the hospital, offering to drop their unprecedented small claims court case if administrators can convince them that procedures there have improved.
“We want to know this won’t ever happen again,” Barbara Farlow said yesterday outside court, where the case was adjourned for two weeks.
During that period, Farlow and her husband, Tim, plan to arrange a meeting with Sick Kids officials to discuss current procedures.
“It’s in their hands now,” Barbara Farlow said as she left the court.
No date or time has been set for the Farlows to meet with officials from the hospital. If no meeting takes place, they will be back in court in two weeks to decide whether to proceed with their suit.
A call to Sick Kids yesterday to ask if such a meeting could take place was not returned.
The couple has had a sometimes acrimonious relationship with the hospital since 2005, when their 80-day-old daughter, Annie, born with a rare genetic disorder called trisomy 13, died there after going into respiratory distress.
