Parents seek help in search for missing son

A Quebec couple has travelled more than 4,500 kilometres following the birth of their granddaughter and the disappearance of their son.

Martin Belanger has yet to meet his baby girl, newborn Martia-Cherish, as he left his Spruce Grove home on May 22 and never returned.

“We don’t know where he went, when he left and we don’t have any information,” Spruce Grove RCMP Const. Barbara Roy said.

Francis and Ginette Belanger made a desperate appeal to the public yesterday in hopes anyone with information about their 24-year-old son will come forward.

“They believe and hope they could find him,” an interpreter speaking on behalf of the couple said. “They want the community to see this is a big scream from their hearts.”

Martin used to call his mother multiple times per week, Roy said.

“For him not to call is very unusual,” she added.

His Ford F-150 was discovered in the village of Tomahawk two weeks after he disappeared, though Roy says it didn’t provide any leads in the case.

“We are really sad right now,” the interpreter said. “We need anyone with information to call police.”
