A Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament Rally is planned for Halifax on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Province House.

Several elected officials are scheduled to attend, including Halifax MP Megan Leslie of the NDP and Halifax West MP Geoff Regan of the Liberals. The rally is deemed “peaceful and family-friendly” and is in response to Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s decision this month to prorogue Parliament, with MPs not returning until March 3.

“Our core planning group for the rally in Halifax represents people from every part of the political spectrum and a diverse sample of professional backgrounds,” rally organizer Brenden Sommerhalder said in a release. “Our group ranges from university students to business leaders, youth, parents to retired adults. Harper’s actions have generated an anger that blurs demographic lines.”
