Party in the dark at Earth Hour Unplugged

The lights will go out on HRM this weekend.

Earth Hour Unplugged at Grand Parade in Halifax is taking place on Saturday night between 7:30 and 10 p.m.

The event is HRM’s way to celebrate Earth Hour — a global initiative that will see people from around the world turn out their lights for one hour starting at 8:30 p.m. local time to show support for action on climate change.

According to local organizers, Earth Hour Unplugged has one main goal — to educate and bring together Atlantic Canadians to make every hour Earth hour.

Singer-songwriters Dave Gunning and the Sons of Maxwell will be featured at the event. Astronomy Nova Scotia and Conserve Nova Scotia are among several groups that will have onsite demonstrations.

City hall and other HRM buildings won’t be the only ones turning off their lights for Earth Hour.

Other businesses will too, and both the MacDonald and MacKay bridges will participate by shutting off their high-lighting lights.
