A bumbling bank robber is in custody today thanks to a suspicious citizen and some bad luck.
Edmonton police say a 38-year-old man walked into a CIBC on Gateway Boulevard Friday afternoon and handed a teller a note demanding money.
A man outside the bank noticed the suspicious man leaving and observed which direction he was heading, police say. The citizen, who was driving a vehicle, watched the suspect run into a nearby condominium complex and he contacted police.
The man got out of the car to see where the suspect was, police say. It was then that the suspect doubled back and got into the citizen's car.
While the door might have been open, the keys weren't in the ignition. And that's about the time the driver got back and found the suspect in his own car.
He grabbed the suspect and held him until police arrived.
