For a decade, out-of-town kidney transplant patients have been calling 330 East 6th Ave. home as they recover from surgery in homey, furnished apartments provided for free by Vancouver charity, the Chelsea Society.
On Thursday, patients celebrated the 10th anniversary of the Kidney Suites in conjunction with the opening of a fourth apartment.
Rob Gibson, from Vancouver Island, is staying in a suite with his girlfriend as he recovers from a transplant.
“It’s been great having access to the suite,” he said. “It would have been a real hardship if (I) had to pay for a hotel room.”
