The principal and six teachers at the Paul Band First Nation School west of Edmonton have been let go in what the band says is an effort to revitalize the school, CBC News Online reports.

Band adviser Dennis Paul confirmed the entire teaching staff, with the exception of one language teacher, will not have their contracts renewed for the 2010-11 school year.

Paul said the purge is part of an effort to get a clean slate for the school, saying it is necessary to start anew in order to make the school more attractive. He compared it to bringing in new players on a sports team in order to get fans interested.
