Pay lip service to red lipstick

From Christina Hendricks’ come-hither crimson to Emily Blunt’s resplendent rouge, red lips are among this season’s hottest trends.

From Christina Hendricks’ come-hither crimson to Emily Blunt’s resplendent rouge, red lips are among this season’s hottest trends. Here, we show you how to avoid the cardinal sins and go scarlet in style:

Choose the right shade
According to makeup artist Charlotte Willer of Maybelline New York, the best way to meet your lipstick match is to test shades on your fingertips. “They’re the closest to the colour of your lips,” she said.

Prime your canvas
A flaky finish will spoil the look, so exfoliate first by gently buffing lips with a washcloth, then moisturize with eye cream. By the time you finish the rest of your face, the cream will be absorbed and your lips will be ready for colour.

Make one makeup statement at a time
While red lips may be in this season, the “clown” look is not, so if you’re going red, keep the rest of your makeup minimal by sticking to neutral eyeshadow and blush shades.
