RCMP charged a Peace River man with second-degree murder yesterday after discovering the body of an elderly man on a rural property west of Edmonton.
RCMP were originally called out to the property on Township Road 531 and Range Road 261 on Friday to investigate an alleged assault. Once there, they discovered the body of an elderly man and placed Kevin Michalchuk, 38, under arrest.
“Due to observations made at the scene, investigators do not believe the death to be an accident,” said Const. Janine Peter of the Spruce Grove/Stony Plain RCMP in a release.
Anyone who may have information on this incident is asked to call the Stony Plain RCMP at 780-968-7267. Michalchuk remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in Stony Plain Provincial Court on Wednesday.
