Ponoka and Hobbema RCMP responded to a complaint of a single-vehicle collision with a pedestrian Friday night on Highway 2A.

The aboriginal male pedestrian identified as 17-year-old James Marcell Piche of Hobbema was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency workers.

The female driver of the vehicle that was involved in the collision failed to stop at the collision scene, but she then notified police of the incident a short time later.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the collision.

However, due to heavy rain at the time, weather is believed to have been a factor in the incident.
