Heads up, Edmonton! Now more so than ever.
Don’t think that because the roads remain dry and people are spending more time indoors that crosswalks and intersections are safer places to pass through.
Over the past three years, about two-thirds of vehicle-pedestrian collisions in Edmonton have occurred with dry road conditions, and more than half of total collisions occurred between October and March.
“Having low levels of light during peak traffic hours is a key reason,” said Asif Iqbal, city senior traffic safety engineer.
Police and peace officers passed out safety brochures at Churchill Square yesterday to help kick off Pedestrian Safety Month.
