Pelletier replaces Marino on Fed Cup team

MONTREAL – Marie-Eve Pelletier of Repentigny, Que., will replace Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino on Canada’s Fed Cup team, Tennis Canada announced Thursday.

Marino was forced to withdraw from the event due to unspecified family matters.

Pelletier will join Stephanie Dubois of Laval, Que., Toronto’s Sharon Fichman and Aleksandra Wozniak of Blainville, Que., on the Canadian team.

Canada will take part in the Fed Cup’s Americas Zone Group I event schedule for Curitba, Brazil, from Jan. 30 to Feb. 4.

The 29-year-old Pelletier is the veteran of the Canadian team. She made her Fed Cup debut in 2002 and has played in 28 ties, compiling a 22-13 record.

Canada will join Argentina, the Bahamas, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela in the Americas Group I zonal event.
