“The cure to smoking is to stop smoking,” says James Duigan, personal trainer to Elle Macpherson.
“The main role of exercise in the whole quit smoking process is that it shows you how much damage you have done to your body.”
Duigan explains how smoking drastically reduces your lung capacity, as well as damage this vital organ. Going for a run, swim or cycle or even attending a pole dancing class — do something that will get you breathing heavily and break out into sweat. This will speed up the detoxification process and make you realize what you can and cannot do physically.
“Many ex-smokers lose perspective on exercise, as they just feel awful all the time,” continues Duigan. “Exercise can be a real motivating factor.”
