Peter MacKay says election will delay projects vital to economic recovery

ANTIGONISH, N.S. – Defence Minister Peter MacKay says Canadians don’t want another election.

Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff says his party will introduce a non-confidence motion when parliament resumes in October that could bring down the minority Conservatives and force a return to the polls this fall.

MacKay says another federal election will only hold up projects that are vital to the country’s economic recovery.

He says Nova Scotians in particular have already been through both a federal and provincial election in the past year and shouldn’t have to return to the polls for a third time.

MacKay says he’s concerned about increasing voter cynicism and adds that at a “practical level” people expect politicians to work together to get results and not to engage in “partisan games.”

MacKay made the comments in Antigonish, N.S., on Wednesday where he met with municipal leaders and took part in the official opening of the Eastern Nova Scotia Exhibition.
