B.C.’s former attorney general will serve another year as Civil City commissioner, Geoff Plant confirmed yesterday.
Following an address to the Downtown Vancouver Business Association, Plant said he will focus on bringing help to those who need it instead of leaving them to find help on their own.
Homeless people with mental illnesses and addictions struggle with a complex system when they seek help.
Plant, with the help of advocates, experts and community members, will look to make help easier and more accessible.
Plant said the most important development in the past year was the purchase of a number of single-room occupancy (SRO) hotels and the planned development of 1,200 new units of supportive housing on 12 city-owned sites.
