The East Coast Music Awards are being handed out this weekend in Sydney with the spotlight heading in shining on a Halifax musician. Rocker Joel Plaskett tops the nominations list going into the ECMA’s with eight. They are all for “of the year” awards — entertainer, solo recording, recording, songwriter, video, pop recording, and two group single nominations for You Let Me Down and Through and Through and Through. Taking home ECMAs would be nothing new for Plaskett. He won seven for Astray Rock in 2008 and in 2009 won the highly sought after entertainer of the year award. “I’m really glad people are giving it the time of day,” Plaskett told Metro in December, referring to his latest album Three, which has been on store shelves since last March. Halifax’s In-Flight Safety and Enfield’s Classified each have six nominations to finish with the next highest selections.
