Readers of this blog know I am not a golf snob. I appreciate most golf experiences, provided course designs and conditions are solid. And while I’m an equal opportunity golfer – municipal, resort, private … I like to play them all — I’m particularly interested in value. Who isn’t? Especially in today’s economy.
My definition of value is “bang for the buck,” not simply cheap golf. So if I play a top-notch course and it exceeds my expectations, the pricey green fee is a value. Likewise, if I play a blue-collar course that provides a good round, that’s valuable to me, too. On the flip side, a boring round on a blah golf course that feels painfully endless? Well, even if you paid me to play it, I’d take a pass.
I grew up playing courses in and around New Jersey. But I’ve been fortunate to play courses far and wide, including many five-star standouts around the world. Conversely, I’ve traveled locally to play in the Pocono Mountains many times. An easy drive for me — and millions of people within the tri-state area — I always leave satisfied that my trip was worthwhile.
If you haven’t been there, or haven’t been there in quite a while, now may be the time to revisit. Eight courses there have banded together to offer the 2012 Pocono Mountains Golf-A-Round Card. Now available, it offers players hundreds of dollars in savings at courses with a combined 171 holes.
Each card costs $40, and cardholders can play each participating course twice during the 2012 season, for $25 per round with cart. Cardholders can save nearly $175 off the regular rate by playing each course once, up to $400 playing each twice.
The courses are Jack Frost National, Fernwood Golf Course, Hideaway Hills Golf Club, Mount Airy Golf Club, Pocono Manor, Shawnee Inn, Split Rock, and Woodloch.

It’s a true value worth considering, and one I recommend.
