Police at a loss in explaining disturbance call

Two men who were apparently involved in a confrontation Sunday evening on Federal Avenue aren’t talking, a Halifax Regional Police spokesman says.

“We’re not receiving a lot of cooperation from the people involved directly with the incident,” Const. Brian Palmeter said yesterday of the disturbance police were called to at about 5:20 p.m.

He said the two men allegedly involved in an argument on the 3300 block of Federal Avenue weren’t around when officers arrived on scene, adding one of them likely took off in a car.

Someone in the Halifax neighbourhood “claims to have heard shots,” Palmeter said, but added “we can’t find any evidence” indicating a gun was used.

Windows were smashed out of a nearby home, but Palmeter said police don’t know if that had anything to do with the confrontation. “At this point, I don’t know that we even have a criminal offence.”

Police believe the two men allegedly involved know each other.
