Toronto police must share the city’s financial pain and make “tough decisions” if solutions aren’t found to the current budget woes, says Mayor David Miller.
Alok Mukherjee, who chairs the police services board, says it’s not as easy for police to slash spending as it is for the transit system or library board. Such cuts cause “inconvenience,” he said, but police have safety issues to consider. The police board has delayed a decision on cuts until October, despite a request from the city to consider cost-containment measures.
