A standoff with police in Spryfield ended peacefully early yesterday evening.
Halifax Regional Police said a 62-year-old Halifax man was taken into custody without incident just after 6 p.m., following a four-hour standoff with officers outside a home.
Police said that just before 2 p.m. they were called to the 0–100 block of Old Sambro Road regarding a weapons complaint.
According to police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter, they had reason to believe there was an agitated man inside who was in possession of a gun.
The emergency-response team arrived and communicated with the man, who left the home just after 6 p.m.
Police are now investigating the incident and, as of press time, were waiting for a warrant to search the home last night.
The man was still in custody last night and no decision had been made on possible charges.
