Police find missing camper’s pickup truck

Searchers have located a missing 20-year-old Airdrie man’s truck but still have found no signs of him since he disappeared while camping last week.

Parks Canada officials located the truck parked at Pinto Lake near the border of Banff and Jasper National Parks, and authorities say his mom Darlene is relieved.

“She said she felt as though a weight has been lifted off her shoulders,” said RCMP Const. Robert Frizzell. “She’s very relieved, excited and hopeful. She feels better.

“From an investigator’s standpoint, this is a very positive step in the right direction.”

Officers from RCMP detachments in Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff and Rocky Mountain House, along with Parks Canada employees, are searching for Darda from the air and ground.

“We have a lot of people out there looking for him and covering a lot of ground,” Frizzell said.

Darda was supposed to be starting his fourth year in the Edmonton school’s engineering program. In his last text message sent on Sept. 5, Darda told friends it was too dark to set up his tent and that he planned to sleep in his truck.
