The Mounties arrested five impaired drivers overnight Saturday in and around Cole Harbour.

Halifax RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said police officers were out on regular patrols when they spotted and pulled over vehicles that were driving along Cole Harbour Road, John Stewart Drive, Forest Hills Parkway, Nova Terrace and Cow Bay Road.

Taplin said the number of people who were pulled over while under the influence late Saturday night and early Sunday morning was high, but added “when they’re not busy answering other calls, they’re proactively out looking for impaired drivers.”

A 21-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, a 32-year-old man, a 40-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman will all face charges of impaired driving in court at a later date, he said, adding one person is also charged with refusing the breathalyzer.
