Ottawa police have identified a 16-year-old boy who was shot, dumped from a car on a Booth Street sidewalk and left to die.

Yazden Ghiasvand Ghiasi was found on Booth Street just before 10:30 a.m. Monday. An autopsy is scheduled to be performed this morning and results are expected later Tuesday.

Ghiasi was a student at Notre Dame High School. A spokeswoman from the Ottawa Catholic School Board said crisis counsellors and chaplaincy support will be available in the school this week.

"Our community has suffered a devastating loss," said school board spokeswoman Mardi de Kemp. "Our prayers go out to his family and friends at this most difficult time."

A police investigation is ongoing.
