Police investigate weekend shooting in Cole Harbour

RCMP were still waiting to talk to the victim of a shooting in Cole Harbour yesterday.

The 23-year-old man was walking with a friend through a parking lot of a Forest Hills shopping centre at 1:50 a.m. on Saturday.

The suspect shot the victim, hitting him once, before taking off on foot.

The victim was taken to the QEII Health Sciences Centre with serious injuries. He was listed in stable condition.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott Warnica said yesterday police know in what part of the body the man was shot, but aren’t releasing that information because it’s part of the investigation. He said police haven’t had a chance to interview the victim yet.

The victim didn’t know the shooter, and police are still determining if the shooting was random.

“That’s also part of the investigation that we can’t reveal right now, but the investigation is progressing,” Warnica said yesterday. “We’ve got quite a bit of information so far in the investigation, and we’re narrowing down our list of suspects.”

Forensic identification officers were on scene until Saturday lunchtime, when they reopened that part of the parking lot.

Though the shooting happened early in the morning, the parking lot is a busy one with a bar, Big Leagues, and a Tim Hortons restaurant with a 24-hour drive-thru.
