Police investigating death of UBC student

The Vancouver Police Department is investigating the death of a 20-year-old University of British Columbia student in his dorm room two days after he was released from a Whistler jail.

The man was arrested Feb. 23, shortly after 5 p.m., for public drunkenness in Whistler Village. While in a Whistler RCMP cell, the man fell several times. He was released shortly after 3:30 a.m. on Feb. 24.

At 2:30 a.m. the next morning, he was found unconscious in his UBC residence.

The man was rushed to hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

No information on the man is available yet, but Vancouver police Const. Lindsey Houghton says more details may be released as the investigation continues.
