Police lead search for autistic teen

The search was on last night for an 18-year-old autistic girl who hadn’t been seen since she left school yesterday.

Halifax Regional Police issued a release at 9:18 p.m. stating Jennifer Graves-Smith has been missing since leaving Halifax West High School at 3:30 p.m.

Police say Graves-Smith didn’t take her assigned bus home and was last seen taking a wooded pathway from Halifax West toward the Keshen Goodman Public Library on Lacewood Drive.

Police searched the area and surrounding businesses since she was reported missing on a bitterly cold day. Halifax Ground Search and Rescue was called in to assist due to difficult terrain.

Police don’t believe Graves-Smith was met with foul play, and her being away this long is abnormal for her.

The missing teen is five-foot-eight, 130 pounds with shoulder-length brown hair and is known to turn away when approached by strangers.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Jennifer Graves-Smith is asked to contact Halifax Regional Police at 490-5016.
