Police make three gang arrests

For the second and third time in a two-day span, police have made a small dent in organized crime in and around the city.

Last Friday, RCMP in Stony Plain seized a cache of weapons and drugs. Over the same weekend, city police shut down a “stash pad” and seized a fully automatic Tech 9 assault rifle and a sawed off shotgun. The next day, police pulled two kilograms of cocaine out of two separate vehicles.

“We’ve had a couple shootings just recently, nobody’s been injured, but it brings concern to us that these types of weapons, fully automatic, are in Edmonton,” said Staff Sgt. Darren Derko.

“When (gangs) start firing these weapons in a public street, that’s when there’s potential for an innocent person getting hurt.”

Curtis Browne, 25, is facing numerous charges in relation to the “stash pad” investigation. Jia Sheng Liu, 21, and Thomas Vuong, 23, are facing a number of drug-related charges in connection with the cocaine in the vehicles.
