Police officer bitten after responding to noise complaint

A noise complaint got nasty Wednesday night when a drunken woman allegedly bit a police officer on the arm.

Halifax Regional Police said they showed up at a Stoneybrook Court apartment just after 11:30 p.m. to tell some people to simmer down after receiving complaints from neighbours. While they were at first successful in quieting the group, police said the woman “took issue” with officers sticking around and became confrontational.

The officers wrestled with the woman and a 15-year-old girl who joined the melee in the hall outside the apartment, police said, adding that’s when the woman bit an officer.

Police said they kept both accused in custody before they were to appear in Halifax provincial court Thursday. Both are charged with assaulting police and obstruction, but the woman faces one count of assault causing bodily harm, while the girl faces charges of uttering threats and breaching a recognizance order.
