A veteran Toronto Police officer has been suspended after being charged by Halton Police with several child pornography offences.

Police said the accused officer had been assigned to the Community Response Unit at 51 Division.

Halton Sgt. Peter Payne said an investigation was conducted by officers with the force’s Internet Child Exploitation unit, as well as from its Child Abuse Sexual Assault and forensic bureaus.

Const. Kevin Gray, 46, was arrested Monday after information supplied by the FBI resulted in photos and movie files allegedly containing child pornography being discovered in three computers at his Burlington residence following the execution of a search warrant, police said.

Gray has been charged with possession of child pornography and accessing child pornography.

Gray initially served with Toronto Police from 1987 until he joined Halton Police in 2001. He rejoined the Toronto force in 2005.

He is scheduled to appear in Milton court on Aug. 24.

Investigators notified

  • Investigators began probing the Burlington resident in April after they were notified by the National Child Exploitation Centre in Ottawa that a man was being investigated by the FBI in Virginia.
