Police officers cleared of misconduct

A pair of Amherst police officers have been cleared of allegations of misconduct following an eight-month investigation.

The allegations were made by a 51-year-old Amherst man, Patrick Thomas Hawco, last year after his conviction on a number of fraud and theft related charges.

“I have completed my review of the criminal allegations in this matter, concerning members of the Amherst Police Service and I have determined that there is no basis to conclude that a criminal act took place,” chief Mark Mander said in an email Wednesday.
