Police on hunt for three in bizarre shootout

Halifax Regional Police are looking for three people after a 23-year-old man was shot in the head with an air pistol and later chased by two men in a bizarre incident in a Halifax neighbourhood.

Police say the victim was walking around Duncan Street and Chebucto Lane around 2 a.m. on Monday when a vehicle pulled up beside him and a woman sitting in the front passenger seat pulled out an air pistol, aimed it at the victim and attempted to shoot.

The gun didn’t fire, police say, but the vehicle pulled up beside the victim again and he was shot in the head by the pistol.

The victim wasn’t injured and tried to flee the area, but was cut off by the suspects’ car. The 23-year-old then jumped on the car to avoid being hit, police say, and after jumping off was chased by two men. The victim was able to escape and called police. “It appears to be random. There’s no believed connected between the occupants of the car and this individual,” said police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter, adding the victim appeared to know an air pistol was being pointed at him and not a gun.

“I don’t think he was in a terrible panic.”
