Police probe drive-by shooting

Police are investigating an early week drive-by shooting in Spryfield.

Halifax Regional Police spokesman Const. Brian Palmeter said the incident took place early Sunday morning near the 800 block of Herring Cove Road. It wasn’t until early yesterday police learned of the shooting, with Palmeter stating the complaint was received “third-hand.”

“Three females were in the car at the time we believe the vehicle was shot at,” he said. “We believe the car was shot at three times. It could be more but we found what we believe to be three separate holes in the vehicle.”

The car was looked over by investigators yesterday and seized once police determined the holes were likely from bullets.

Palmeter said he believed the females in the car shot at were all teenagers. He also said police haven’t been able to speak with the owners of the vehicle or the person driving it.

Police say the females were travelling outbound on Herring Cove Road around 1 a.m. on Sunday when a light-coloured SUV appeared to be following them. The victims turned their car around and a short time later heard something hit the vehicle.

Police say they were unsure what it was and continued home.

Once at home, police say the females examined the vehicle and saw several holes.

Police are also looking to talk to the occupants of the SUV as they continue the investigation.
