Police say speed and alcohol were factors in snowmobiler’s death

A 44-year-old snowmobiler died on the weekend.

RCMP responded to the scene of an accident on a groomed snowmobile trail in East Folly Mountain in Colchester County on Saturday night. It appears Fraser Ritchie Barnhill lost control of his vehicle and hit a tree, the RCMP said.

Paramedics, firefighters and RCMP officers used a snowmobile and a four-wheel drive vehicle to retrieve to the injured man from the scene of the accident, which found eight kilometers away from the nearest road.

Barnhill had chest injuries and he went into cardiac arrest as he was being transported to the QEII hospital in Halifax. He later died.

Colchester RCMP say speed and alcohol were both factors in the accident.
