Police seek missing trucker after rig found idling in York Region

Police in York Region north of Toronto are searching for a trucker who disappeared this week while his truck was left idling in Woodbridge.

Thirty-four-year-old Charanjit Melde was last seen on April 23 at 10 p.m. when he left home to go work but didn’t return home as expected on Friday.

The 34-year-old man Melde was headed to Nevada and was believed to be back in Canada when he called his company a couple of days ago.

The company assumed Melde was in Woodstock, Ont., but police later found his truck 130 kilometres away in Woodbridge, Ont.

Police say the truck, found in a Wal-Mart parking lot, was still running and contained its cargo.

Melde is described as East Indian, five-foot-seven, about 220 pounds, with medium length black hair and a chubby face.
