Police tight-lipped on suspicious death

Police are giving few details on what they are calling the suspicious death of a woman in Dartmouth.

Police were called to assist paramedics regarding the death of a woman believed to be in her 50s at 6 Princeton Lane in Portland Estates yesterday afternoon.

Staff Sgt. Reid McCoombs gave little information when contacted about the situation last night, including what has led police to the determination that the death is suspicious.

“I can’t comment on those circumstances,” he said. “We are still in the initial stages of the investigation and still trying to gather all of the facts.”

McCoombs wouldn’t say if anyone other than the victim was inside the home when paramedics arrived.

He also wouldn’t say where in the home the victim was found.

“We are waiting to get a warrant,” McCoombs said as to what the next step would be from police.

“Once we get the warrant, we can begin the forensic work (inside the home). Depending on the situation, we may just hold the scene overnight (first).”

He said a determination on cause of death won’t be known until an autopsy is completed and the forensic work is finished.
