Nearly two months after his car was first seized, a Vancouver speed racer’s confiscated Ferrari will be sold for $235,000, local RCMP announced yesterday.
Impounded by North Van Mounties in September after being caught speeding 140 kilometres per hour above the posted limit through the city’s winding Mt. Seymour Road, the car is estimated to be the most expensive vehicle ever impounded under the terms of the B.C. Civil Forfeiture Act. The driver, a 21-year-old Vancouver native, will receive only 30 per cent of the sale revenue, with the remainder going to the car’s other part owner — who was uninvolved in the incident — and the province.
According to the B.C. solicitor general’s office, in the four years since the province’s forfeiture laws were revised, the province has seized more than $13 million worth of assets involved in crimes.
