The body of a man found in Eel Lake in Yarmouth County Sunday night has been identified as 34-year-old Neil Joseph Blades.
Investigators from Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit and Yarmouth Town and County RCMP are now confirming the man died from unnatural causes, and the investigation is being treated as a homicide.
The RCMP believe this was not a random act based on an autopsy conducted Monday in Halifax, but would not disclose the cause of death. It’s been reported Blades is known to police.
Yarmouth County RCMP received a 911 call from a passerby Sunday at about 7 p.m. The body was floating in the shallow water of Eel Lake in Bellville, Yarmouth County.
RCMP is asking the public’s assistance and requests anyone who has been in the area over the past several days and may have information to assist the investigation by contacting Yarmouth RCMP at 902-742-9106.
