Police warn women of released high-risk sex offender

Women in Vancouver are being warned about a high-risk sex offender who has been released from prison and is living in a federal halfway house.

Barry Ross Blaney was paroled on April 24, after serving time for sexual assault causing bodily harm and overcoming resistance by choking.

“While in federal custody, Blaney was assessed as a high risk to re-offend sexually,” said Const. Anne Longley. “(He) poses a risk of significant harm to the safety of adult women in the city.

While on parole, Blaney must abstain from alcohol and non-prescription drugs and report all intimate relationships with women to his parole supervisor.

Anyone who sees him violating these conditions is asked to call 9-1-1.
