Poll: America rates its favorite states, Hawaii most popular

Ever wondered what state everyone loves and what one is disliked?

Public Policy Polling surveyed 3,300 Americans during a four month period asking various questions to find which states are most favorable and unfavorable.

The results: Unsurprisingly, Hawaii is the favorite, loved by 54 percent of people polled. The island factor must weight heavily because although California has similarly pleasant weather, 44 percent of Americans dislike the Golden State. Maybe it’s the carefree attitude of Californians or the over-hyped L.A. stereotypes, but something about it irks Americans — to the point that they overwhelmingly prefer South Dakota, with 42 percent saying they like the state and only 8 percent saying they dislike it.

Other favorite states include Colorado (44 percent likes, 9 percent dislikes), Tennessee (48 percent likes and 14 percent dislikes), and Virginia (45 percent likes and 13 percent dislikes).

Illinois wins the hearts of 19 percent. New Jersey is third from the bottom with 32 percent of people disliking it, followed by Mississippi at 28 percent. Utah follows with a 27 percent dislike rate.

It may be hard to believe for some, but even Jersey is preferred to California.
