A recent poll by Corporate Research Associates show 53 per cent of the 402 residents they surveyed support splitting the HRM in half into urban and rural units.
According to the poll, 36 per cent oppose a split.
CRA says support for separating the municipality has been steady for the past five years.
Support for the split is strongest in the County of Halifax and weakest in Dartmouth.
CRA also found the older the resident surveyed, the more likely they’d support a split.
The poll was conducted in November with overall results accurate to within 4.9 percentage points.
