Possible kidnapping hoax spurs search

Surrey RCMP are helping officers in Alaska search for a girl who called police claiming she had been kidnapped and provided officers with a telephone number belonging to a Surrey business.

Cindee Brown-Mills, a spokesperson for the Juneau police, said the girl — who claimed to be 10 — called early Friday morning and told dispatchers her name was Abby McKenzie.

“There’s … nobody by that name in Juneau,” she said.

Brown-Mills said it’s possible the call was a hoax.
