A Florida woman who was five-months pregnant was shot in the head while visiting a friend who was showing off his gun collection.
Katherine Lynn Hoover, 25, died early Sunday morning, several hours after being shot. Doctors removed her baby, but he also died.
Emergency crews were called to a home in Brooksville, Fla., at about 6:45 p.m. Saturday for a shooting, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
An investigation revealed that Hoover was visiting a friend and his family. The man was showing his gun collection, including a .22-caliber revolver, when it went off. Hoover was eventually flown to a hospital.
“At this point, preliminary indications appear that the shooting is accidental,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Authorities are continuing their investigating.
