An early morning fire on Preston Street caused an estimated $400,000 in damages to a residence, a business downstairs and their contents Thursday.

A two-alarm fire at 173 Preston St., called in at 3:50 a.m., required 17 rigs and 43 firefighters. The fire was brought under control just over an hour later.

The fire, which was in the upstairs apartment and attic space, also caused water damage to the flower shop below, said Ottawa fire Capt. Pierre Savary. Damage to the building is estimated at $300,000, while damage to the contents is $100,000.

There were no injuries.

While the fire is not considered to be suspicious, the cause is still under investigation, Savary said.
