Private member’s bill targeting child abuse dies at Queen’s Park

A private member’s bill from Nepean Carleton Conservative MPP Lisa MacLeod that would have allowed police to detain child abusers and prohibit contact with their victims and ban advertising with sexual images of people under 17 years old was voted down at Queen’s Park Thursday.

A release from MacLeod’s office said the Children’s Safety and Protection Rights Act 2008 was on its second reading, but did not get enough votes continue moving through the Ontario legislature.

“The Liberals could have banned sexual ads depicting or intended for our youth and they refused to,” said MacLeod. “They’ve ignored repeated calls to better educate children on abuse prevention.”
