Accounting discrepancies within the student association at the Nova Scotia Community College’s Truro campus recently led to the group’s temporary suspension.

But a college official, citing privacy issues, would not provide specific details of what happened.

Gina Brown, director of marketing and communication, said the college does random audits at four campuses each year. Truro campus was audited this year and from the examination of the student association, recommendations were made and a review started.

“We don’t want to discuss (the dollar amount) because it really was not a significant amount of money. It’s more about the procedures that were not followed to the T,” said Brown.

The student association is responsible for an annual budget of more than $100,000.

In this case “there were no missing assets, like inventory, equipment or alcohol.”
