The Halifax Rainmen are hoping a ticket promotion will pack the Metro Centre for their pre-season opener.

The Rainmen announced yesterday 10,000 fans can attend their Dec. 19 contest against the Manchester Millrats for free courtesy of title sponsor Rogers Communications.

The Rainmen, who have never had a crowd larger than 4,343, dubbed the event Rogers Slam Dunk Day. Most of the tickets have been offered to local minor basketball associations, while the rest will be handed out via contests.

“It’s exactly what we want to do to keep our momentum going,” said Rainmen owner Andre Levingston. “It’s going to be pretty hard to get a ticket for opening night.”
