Proposals will boost study of Canada’s North

Expect to learn more about our country’s changing North, thanks to a new research initiative launched by the Government of Canada.

Speaking at Carleton University on Thursday afternoon, Gary Goodyear, minster of state for science and technology, announced the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council Frontiers initiative.

“The Frontiers initiative will help address national research priorities and global challenges,” said Goodyear.

“The Discovery initiative will increase our knowledge of Canada’s northern ecosystem and support innovation that will benefit the northern economy.”

Discovery research proposals will result in funding of up to $4 million over a five-year period to bolster the study of northern earth systems.

Innovation Frontiers will fund large-scale research projects that have the capacity to revolutionize existing fields.

Successful applicants in this field will receive a minimum of $1 million per year in funding for up to five years.
