Protesters, Aryan Guard clash at demonstration

CALGARY — Police arrested three people as Aryan Guard and Anti-Racist Action members clashed outside city hall.

At about 3 p.m. Saturday, Aryan Guard members arrived at the Mewatta Armory where they began their demonstration.

At 7 Ave. and 6 Street S.W., police say the Aryan Guard were met by members of the Anti-Racist Action group and the two groups clashed.

Projectiles were thrown and protesters blocked buses causing some problems for Calgary Transit.

At least two people were treated for head injuries after being hit by projectiles, though no one was seriously injured.

The Aryan Guard boarded a bus at about 4:30 p.m. and the Anti-Racist Action group dispersed.

Police say officers moved the 500 protesters along to ensure their safety and the safety of members of the public. Three people were arrested and charges are pending.
