Capital Pride may be well underway, but Pride Week, which kicked off yesterday, gave extra meaning to the festivities with a few special events.
Groups, including city paramedics and police, showed their support for the GLBTTQ community with flag raisings and a charity breakfast.
Events like this are important, said community co-chair of the Ottawa Police Service GLBT liaison committee Marion Steele.
“It brings everyone to an even playing field.”
Pride Week features a full roster of activities open to the general public, said for Capital Pride vice-chair Brodie Fraser.
In its 25th year, Capital Pride has more programming than previous years, with highlights including the 11th annual Capital Pride Rainbow Party and the Capital Pride Parade.
The parade, which draws tens of thousands of people annually, starts at 1 p.m. Sunday and proceeds down Wellington Street to city hall. A fair and an exhibit of memorabilia from the last 25 years of Capital Pride will be held at city hall following the parade.
